Padma Vaidya holds M.Sc. in Chemistry from Tribhuvan University in 1978. Previously she has served as a vice president (2019-2027) for two consecutive terms and now elected as President. She has been serving ABAN since 1998 as an executive member, assistant treasurer and coordinator of socio-cultural committee.
Padma is a British Council Scholar who did her advanced post graduate studies in Britain in the field of Organic Geochemistry back in 1986-87. She did other advance studies in Canada, Italy, Norway, Israel, Iran, India and China for relevant coursed as petroleum technologies, geochemistry, energy management, preventive conservation and heritage management.
Before retiring, Padma worked as a senior chemist (under- secretary) at the Department of Mines and Geology for 22 years and as a Chief Conservator for 10 years at the Department of Archaeology, Ministry of Tourism. She has active interests in preservation of social and cultural heritage and restoration.
Padma is looking forward to work with the newly elected distinguished team of ABAN and its general and life members in strengthening the position and enhancing the activities of ABAN in the years ahead.

Mr. Uttam Prasad Pant is a highly respected educationist with 39 years of experience in language and computer education in Nepal. He founded Universal Language and Computer Institute (ULCI), one of the oldest and reputable training providers in Nepal, in 1984. He is credited with pioneering computer and English language education in Nepal and played a pivotal role in organizing the first international English Language Teaching book fair in Nepal. He introduced British diploma qualifications in Computing and Management in Nepal, and is a founding member of Nepal English Language Teacher’s Association and Computer Association of Nepal. He serves as Examination Manager in Nepal for several international examinations and was President of the Education Consultants Association of Nepal (ECAN) and IERIN (International Education Representatives’ Initiative of Nepal). In 2022, he was appointed as Patron of IERIN for his contributions to international education in Nepal.
In addition to his contributions in education, he has undertaken research studies in the life and contributions of Yogmaya Neupane, a religious leader, women’s rights activist and poet based in Bhojpur district of Nepal. He has shared his research on this topic through articles, papers, and presentations and published a book titled ‘Yogmayadham’ in 2018.
Mr. Pant has provided leadership to ABAN as General Secretary from 2015 to 2018, and as President for two terms between 2019 – 2023. During his successful tenure, ABAN made significant strides in highlighting the contributions and knowledge sharing of its members through events, digitizing ABAN activities, increasing ABAN’s revenue generation capabilities, and strengthening ties with the British Council and the British Embassy.
He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Tribhuvan University, Nepal and a Certificate in Management Consulting from the Institute of Management Consulting, UK. He also completed a Diploma in Computing from London Academy of Computing and Electronics and a certificate in English Language from Cambridge.

Maheswor is a freelance consultant on Aviation & Tourism management since 1993 when he retired from Nepal Airlines Corporation as Director of Corporate Department. After M. Com. from Tribhuvan University he studied post-graduate in Transport & Development in the University of Westminster, London in 1978-79. He also studied Professional Aviation Management course in McGill University Canada and Market Development Course in McDonnel Douglas Corporation, Long Beach USA. As Chief of Planning in the airline he initiated annual Operating Plan since 1976, and long term planning since 1980. As Member Secretary of Jet Fleet Evaluation Committee nominated by the government in 1982 he was instrumental in introducing Boeing 757 jet to mark a Golden age in Nepal Airlines during 1987 to 1997.
He also lectured on Corporate Planning at CEDA, NASC, Nepal Bankers Association etc. and taught Airline Management and Airline Marketing for Masters course in Tourism Studies of Purbanchal University, where his book titled “Nepalese Aviation & Tourism” 2000 was prescribed.
He worked as PR Consultant to US AID in 1994, Advisor to Nepal Tourism Board in 2010, 2014, Aviation consultant to National Planning Commission and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN); Ministry of Tourism, Asian Development Bank funded tourism/ aviation projects in Nepal. During 2012-2015 he served as Deputy Team Leader in the Capacity Development Project of CAAN. As airline consultant, he helped several foreign airlines (China South West Airline from Lhasa, Transavia /Martin Air Holland, China Southern from Guangzhou, Malaysian Airlines, Jet Airways, Tibet Airlines etc.) to start services to Nepal, besides establishing several domestic and international airlines in Nepal.
Maheswor joined ABAN in July 1999, worked as Executive Member during 2002 to 2006, as Vice President during 2006-2008 and was the first President of ABAN for two terms during 2015-2019.

Ms. Shiba Devi Kafle holds M.Phil. degree in Monetary Economics with optional International Economics and international banking & environment of international business from the University of Glasgow, UK in 1993-95 after completing her MA in Economics from Tribhuwan University, Nepal.
She started her career as an Assistant Lecturer with Mahendra Ratna Campus in 1980. Ms. Kafle joined Nepal Rastra Bank and served various important departments in various capacities such as Public Debt Officer in Public Debt Department, Deputy Director of Research Department, Director of Research Department, Balance of Payment Division, between 1990 to 2010.
After serving for several years with the Central Bank of Nepal, Ms. Kafle was appointed as the CEO of Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB), a government owned commercial bank in 2011 during her tenure as the member of the Board of Directors of RBB from 2011-15. She was appointed as the expert director in the Board of Rural Micro Finance Development Centre (RMDC) for 2015-2018. Currently, she is a Board member in Mega Bank Nepal Ltd which is a class A commercial bank in Nepal. She has also served as the SAARC Finance Coordinator between 2004-2010 and was the Vice Chairperson of Nepal Rastra Bank’s ex-Employees’ Association during 2011-14. Ms. Kafle has attended various relevant trainings and seminars within the country and abroad. Likewise, she has published several economic articles in different journals. Her expertise is in international trade and balance of payments.
Ms. Kafle joined Association of British Alumni in Nepal (ABAN) several years ago as a life member. Her membership number is 171. She has served ABAN as the Assistant Treasurer in two consecutive terms during 2015-2018 and as the general secretary during 2019-2021.

Gobinda did M. Sc. in Agriculture from University of London, Wye College, Kent, UK in 1993 and worked as Agriculture Scientist for over 8 years in Pakhribas Agriculture Centre, changed to Development sector working with CARE International for 11 years as Senior ANR Advisor and Programme Manager. During the period he managed different donor funded programme including DFID in Mid and Far-west Nepal. Gobinda had a Post-graduate Diploma degree in management from American Management Association, New York, USA in 2002. With his diverse qualification and experience he moved to Department for International Development (DFID) as Governance expert for 13 years. In addition, he had professional training like Monitoring and Evaluation training from University of Edinburgh, Emergency management from RedR UK, London and Governance training in UK. During his 35 years of professional career on research, development and governance sector, he worked more than 22 year with the UK government agencies and/or funded programmes at different capacity. Earlier he also served as Agriculture Officer in the Government of Nepal.
Mr. Neupane’s area of expertise includes agriculture research and development, natural resource management, rural development and poverty reduction, conflict and emergency management, water and sanitation and Local Governance. He has worked with different level partners including government, civil society organizations, private sector/consulting companies, multilateral and bilateral organizations. At present he is a freelancer on development sector and contributes his expertise to the development of the nation. Mr. Uttam Lal did Geotechnical Engineering from UK in 1993 from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering (Highways) from former USSR, 1984 (Kharkov Automobile Highway Institute, Kharkov, Ukraine) and Member of professional organizations: Nepal Engineers Association and Nepal Geo-technical Society.
Uttam Lal started as Civil Engineer in the Government of Nepal for 20 years. He was trained in the UK, Japan, Thailand, India, South Korea and Austria in various disciplines of Civil Engineering. He was engaged in building Airports, Roads and Bridges. After formal training in the UK, he worked at higher level of professional expertise in the capacity of Division Chief and Project Manager of Road Divisions and Projects during 1994 -2004 and Regional Director of the Department of Roads for 5 years, Team Leader of the project implementation monitoring teams supervising in numerous road projects. He served as Board of Directors of the Department of Roads.
Worked for 35 years in building Road Transport Infrastructures in urban and remote places. Contributed in some strategically and economically important roads and bridges at Ghurmi and Bheri rivers, considered as the gateways to Jajarkot and Dolpa in the West and Khotang, Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu districts in East Nepal. Provided the professional leadership and put in large efforts in solving the technical complications with high dedication to complete these projects to relieve the people from hardships and economic loss due to lack of these bridges. Ms. Meenu Shrestha Hada holds Master degree in Sustainable Agriculture (Wye College, London University, UK in 1996) and Bachelor degree in Agriculture (University of Agriculture Science, India). She has served for Pakhribas Agriculture Centre (PAC), the DFID funded agriculture research center for four years as a Research Officer. Through her research finding, she has contributed for the upliftment of the farmers in the eastern region particularly highlighting women farmers’ role in agriculture which later became a key agriculture research focus area.
From July 1999, her journey into humanitarian sector started with the United Nation World Food Programme (WFP). She served for WFP Nepal Country Office for more than 18 Years in Livelihoods and Resilience building sector. She has also served as a Programme Advisor for WFP Lebanon, WFP Lao PDR, WFP Iraq office and many other countries for improving the food and nutrition security of the vulnerable population of the respective countries. Recently she also served in the World Bank Nepal as a Public Work Programme Advisor where she had led a team of consultant for undertaking review of the National Public Work Programme, popularly known as Prime Minister Employment Programme.
The fight against hunger is critical globally, with rates steadily rising because of persistent poverty, the impact of climate change and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, her involvement in WFP has contributed significantly in sustainable improvement in food and nutrition security through various Food and Cash for Assets activities focusing on assets creation, livelihood activities and skill development. Her role is mainly on programme design and management focusing on climate action, safety nets and social protection, smallholder market support, nutrition, and supply chain all have systemic potential to eradicate hunger.

Mr. Madhav Prasad Bhatta has over 40 years of experience in Banking and Finance industry. Born in the Doti district of Far Western Nepal, Madhav holds Master’s in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal and Master’s in Banking and Finance from University of Wales, UK. He also holds a Law Degree from Tribhuvan University in 1988-89.

Dr. Nastu Sharma is a registered Physician. He has a PhD in Clinical Medicine, Master’s in Public Health and a Post Graduate Diploma in OBGYN from Leeds University UK. He has worked in the Nepali government’s health system, multilateral and bilateral donor agencies, and nongovernmental organizations. During the past 31 years, Dr. Sharma has worked as the clinician, health and education system expert. Dr Sharma has served as a hospital administrative director, and as the chief executive officer of Kathmandu University Teaching Hospital and CEO of the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Hospital and the health advisor to the World Bank. He is also a senior health system specialist, academician and management expert. He has demonstrable expertise in Women, children and newborn health issues, and Neglected Tropical diseases. He is an expert on global health such as women deliver, Gavi, ASCEND, global fund etc.
Dr. Sharma joined ABAN in August 2015. He has also served as chairman and board members of many national and international organizations. He has number of publications in the national and international peer reviewed journals covering areas of clinical, public health, women and children issues, and non-clinical health sciences. He is a founder of two medical training institutes, two community schools and a primary health center.

Sanjivani did Btec. HND in Travel and Tourism Management from Uxbridge college, London in 2011 and later she went to University of West London to pursue BA honours in Travel and Tourism Management in 2012. Journalist by profession, Mr. Ghanashyam Khadka is a Senior Sub Editor at Kantipur National Daily, the largest selling broadsheet of the nation. As a Chevening fellow, he holds LLM degree in International and European Human Rights law from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
He currently heads the Human Rights Bureau of which is solely responsible to cover the issues related to human rights, transitional justice, civil society, UN organs and foreign affairs.
After returning from the UK in 2018, Mr. Khadka is leading the Human Rights Journalists’ Association (HURJA), the network of human rights journalists working for the promotion, protection and respect of human rights through defending and building the capacities of journalists, to effectively exercise their constitutional rights and fundamental freedoms for collective campaigning through the media. Mr. Khadka has authored several books both fiction and non-fiction such as Nirvana, Putaliko Ghar, Nyayako Awasan and Durbarko Dukhanta.

Dr. Lok Bhattarai started his career as a ‘development practitioner’ in Nepal with much intensive involvement and interest in tourism, water resources and agrarian sector. He also provided policy and practice-oriented research support to a number of national and international development agencies in Nepal and Asian region.
In 2006, Dr. Bhattarai was invited as a Visiting Scholar by IOE/UCL, University of London in the UK. Later, he received Ph. D. for an interdisciplinary research from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences in Leeds Beckett University, UK in 2013. While in the UK, he delivered a number of guest-lectures and talk programs on issues of education and socio-economic development in Nepal in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Institute of Education (IOE), and the University of East Anglia.
Dr. Bhattarai moved to Canada in 2014 and served a range of organizations representing higher education institutions, not for profit corporations, and government bodies. He provided research support to Canadian government’s ICE committee that stands for Inter-Governmental Committee for Economic and Labor Force Development which would involve all three levels of government. He has served Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada as a Professor and is presently connected to a number of higher education institutions from different parts of the world in different roles and capacity. Drawing from his interdisciplinary expertise and experience, he is working, apart academia, in promoting entrepreneurship for local development in Nepal. He is also serving, as an Associate Editor, to The Journal of Social Entrepreneurship being presently hosted by the University of Oxford in the UK. Dr. Bhattarai is a prolific writer and is featured on various media including national television in Nepal. Among other things, he offers a critical angle in analyzing Nepal’s development planning, policies, structural and cultural issues with government organizations, and its impact to general public.

Hari Bahadur Thapa works as a television journalist. He began his career in the media in 2064 with Sagarmatha Television. He started his journey as a media entrepreneur after gaining some experience in the media sector. He is now the managing director of Media Mission Network. He created a number of television programs about education, migration, and development. Similarly, he is a pioneer media personality in the development of short educational films, documentaries, and visual biographies. He is also an active social activist in various organizations. He is currently the chairperson of the National Network for Safe Migration (NNSM). He received his master’s degree in sociology from Tribuwan University.

Dr. Mrigendra Raj Pandey, a Royal Cardiologist did his FRCP in 1969, MRCP in 1959, DTM&H in 1957 from UK. He founded Mrigendra Samjhana Medical Trust, a charitable medico-social organization established in 1975. The Trust was founded by donating personal property at the heart of Kathmandu city.

Dr. Mahodhadi Pradhan Shrestha is a Senior Consultant Obstetricians and Gynecologist. She was born on 13 January 1940.
She completed her MBBS degree from the Trivendrum Medical College under Kerala University in 1964, Diploma in Obstetrics (D. Obs. RCOG) from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist in 1970, and MRCOG (Preparation) from the Royal College of London during 1970-72.
Dr. Mahodhadi is a Fellow of the Institution of International Surgeons, Washington, DC USA since 1985.
She did her medical practice privately and since 1996 to date she in involved in Everest Hospital, Baneshwor, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Maheswor is a freelance consultant on Aviation & Tourism management since 1993 when he retired from Nepal Airlines Corporation as Director of Corporate Department. After M. Com. from Tribhuvan University he studied post-graduate in Transport & Development in the University of Westminster, London in 1978-79. He also studied Professional Aviation Management course in McGill University Canada and Market Development Course in McDonnel Douglas Corporation, Long Beach USA. As Chief of Planning in the airline he initiated annual Operating Plan since 1976, and long term planning since 1980. As Member Secretary of Jet Fleet Evaluation Committee nominated by the government in 1982 he was instrumental in introducing Boeing 757 jet to mark a Golden age in Nepal Airlines during 1987 to 1997.
He also lectured on Corporate Planning at CEDA, NASC, Nepal Bankers Association etc. and taught Airline Management and Airline Marketing for Masters course in Tourism Studies of Purbanchal University, where his book titled “Nepalese Aviation & Tourism” 2000 was prescribed.
He worked as PR Consultant to US AID in 1994, Advisor to Nepal Tourism Board in 2010, 2014, Aviation consultant to National Planning Commission and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN); Ministry of Tourism, Asian Development Bank funded tourism/ aviation projects in Nepal. Mr. Uttam Prasad Pant is a highly respected educationist with 39 years of experience in language and computer education in Nepal. He founded Universal Language and Computer Institute (ULCI), one of the oldest and reputable training providers in Nepal, in 1984. He is credited with pioneering computer and English language education in Nepal and played a pivotal role in organizing the first international English Language Teaching book fair in Nepal. He introduced British diploma qualifications in Computing and Management in Nepal, and is a founding member of Nepal English Language Teacher’s Association and Computer Association of Nepal. He serves as Examination Manager in Nepal for several international examinations and was President of the Education Consultants Association of Nepal (ECAN) and IERIN (International Education Representatives’ Initiative of Nepal). In 2022, he was appointed as Patron of IERIN for his contributions to international education in Nepal.
In addition to his contributions in education, he has undertaken research studies in the life and contributions of Yogmaya Neupane, a religious leader, women’s rights activist and poet based in Bhojpur district of Nepal. Dr. Badri Raj Pande is a pediatrician, actively involved in public health for nearly six decades in the government and WHO. He is Chairman of National Committee for Certification for Polio Eradication, Chairman of steering committee of the Farming, Health and Environment Nepal project, Nepal Public Health Foundation.
